harbourpolis odessa
the industrial harbour of odessa, once erected as symbol of wealth and center of trade for the whole black sea, today has lost most of its economic importance. therefore we took a closer look to find answers how the city could react at an urban planning level.
current european projects at waterfronts in mind (lissabon, barcelona, london, hamburg, lehavre, etc.) we drove to odessa and developed, in a workshop, visions for the citydevelopment.
in general the idea was to strenghten the “finger” like structure as distinctive mark, allowing a development in steps. each finger obtained a new function implying the existing industrial structures. what today is mostly an impenetrable jungle besides the famous potemkin stair, becomes a new landscape, containing housing, gardens and a boulevard, to connect the old city with its new part.
