tour place d'armes montreal
this highrise building is integrated in the historic context of old montreal. the twisted shape is intended to give visual decongestion viewed from place d’armes, while it adds a self confident sign to the skyline seen from more far away. it trys to revalue the place, once montreals most important public place, by adding a generous public underground park that is also connected to the metro.
besides the curtain wall the building will receive a second climatic skin that is strechted from top to bottom. it consists of a transparent foil fixed on a steelmesh that is colored in the red of the “new york life insurance building” that it is facing. further the building pays homage to it’s historic surrounding by continuing the theme of arcades from the “banque de montreal”. the building would contain office spaces in its lower half and have a skylobby and a hotel in the upper part.
